UKB Mourns Death of Council Rep. Alvin Hicks

TAHLEQUAH, OK. It is with great sadness that the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians formally announces the passing of UKB Tribal Councilman, Alvin Hicks. He was 63.

Hicks was elected to represented the Tahlequah District on the Keetoowah Council in November 2020. He was currently serving in his second term.

“I was very shocked to hear the news on Monday that Alvin had passed away. My thoughts are with his entire family,” UKB Chief Joe Bunch said. “Alvin always brought an urbane and gentlemanly air to our council meetings. The pride he served the Keetoowah people with was visible in all business that he conducted. He was a true champion for our tribe that will be greatly missed.”

Hicks’ cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

“I’m shocked. I don’t think anyone of us were expecting to learn this news on Monday,” UKB Assistant Chief Jeff Wacoche said. “I’m understating it when I say that Alvin will be missed. I pray for comfort and peace to his family during this time.”

Councilman Hicks’ funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 22 at 2pm at Green Country Funeral Home in Tahlequah. Burial will be at Sellers Mission in Park Hill.
